I grew up in southern California and earned a B.S. degree in journalism and an M.F.A. in theatre arts. For my M.F.A. internship, I worked at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland. When my internship ended, I decided that I wasn't quite ready to return to the states, and made a detour for Paris. I got a job as an au pair for a French family and ended up staying 8 months. That was in the early 1990s.
When I returned to California, my French skills (still rather rudimentary) became an asset, and I worked in software localization and in a translation agency. I eventually became a French to English technical translator, specializing in the translation of medical texts and patents.
Yes, I am a geek.
In 2008, I fulfilled a long-standing dream and obtained a visa to live in France. This blog is where I write about my adventures and passions, mostly centering on food.
